Don’t Forget #GivingTuesday!

The second annual #GivingTuesday is fast approaching. This year, it occurs on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.

Last year, the national celebration of America’s charitable activities garnered more than 2,500 partners from across the United States, including the John Templeton Foundation, one of the country’s champions of philanthropy. More than 50 million people worldwide spread the word on Twitter, a milestone trending event that led to a successful and significant philanthropic phenomenon.

As Kathy Calvin put it on her Huffington Post blog, “In this new era, anyone can be a philanthropist. You don’t have to be a billionaire or a world leader to make a difference, you just have to care about a cause and be willing to get involved. And from our experience and the hard proof of data, people are eager to get involved.”

This year, the organizers—New York’s 92nd Street Y—are once again asking partners, families, and individuals to create and commit to charitable projects on and around the December date, and to use their networks to spread the word. This may mean volunteering at a local charity or donating to a favorite cause. Full details about how to join in, and make this second year as big a success as the first, are available online.
